March 12, 2011: State Competition
    The state competition was held at Red Mountain High School with 40 teams from across the state, including a rookie team from Seton Catholic.
The winning state team was Canyon del Oro with a score of 46,272, Mountain View Mesa with a score of 45,112.3, was in second place and in third place Red Mountain with a score of 44,368.4.
   
March 13, 2010: State Competition
    The state competition was held at Sandra Day O’Connor High School with 40 teams from across the state, including rookie teams from Benson, Desert Vista, James Madison Prep, and Valley Christian. The winning state team is Mountain View Mesa with a score of 48,759, in second place Canyon del Oro with a score of 47,892 and in third place Red Mountain with a score of 41,874.    
February 5, 2010: Regional Competitions
    Four regional competitions were held around the state. Kingman Academy of Learning won the Region I competition for the first time. The competition was held in Pinetop and despite the snow was a great success. Cesar Chavez was also a first time winner in Region II which was held at Deer Valley High School. Canyon del Oro was the top team in Region III with the second highest state score of 45,781. Region III was held in Sierra Vista at Buena High School. Mesa Mountain View High School came back to dominate the Region IV competition with a high score for the state of 47,305. The competition was held at Mesquite High School in Gilbert.    
November 14, 2009: ASU Student Workshop
    ASU held its annual Student Workshop day hosted by the History Department and headed by Dr. Kent Wright a renowned scholar on the French Revolution. Drs. Victoria Thompson and Richard Hopkins both of the History department gave presentations in economics and the history of the French Revolution. Dr. Ranko Richert of the science department gave a presentation in chemistry along with demonstrations in the effects of liquid nitrogen. Sherrell Miller a docent with the Phoenix Art Museum gave a presentation on 18th Century Art and Dr. Wright presented both the literate and the music sections of the workshop. Over 350 students from around the state attended the day long clinic.    
December 13, 2007: November Scrimmage Results
    Results have been posted for the scrimmages that took place in november, and are now available in the new Scrimmages section!    
February 9, 2007: 2007 Regionals Results
    Regional competition results from this year's regional competition are now available in our results section. Congratulations to all the outstanding teams and students who participated in these competitions! Special congratulations to the state qualifying teams, including regional champions St. Johns, Shadow Mountain, Canyon del Oro, and Mountain View Mesa.    
August 12, 2006: Site updates, reminder
    Please note that all forms for the 2006-07 season are now available for downloading. Be sure to consult the calendar to make sure that you are aware of all deadlines for this year. We also want to remind our coaches of the new coach orientation to be held September 6th and the coaches' clinic on September 7th. For more information email Anne Edelstein.    
August 11, 2006: Nationals 2006, new state director
    Congratulations to the 2006 Arizona team from Canyon del Oro who made a strong showing at their first national competition, finishing 5th overall with a score of 45,952.5 and also finishing 5th in the Super Quiz event. Team members took home 7 event medals. We are proud of our team and our nationals record. Furthermore, we are pleased to welcome Anne Edelstein as our new state Executive Director and look forward to continued excellence for Arizona Academic Decathlon under her leadership.    
March 13, 2006: Canyon del Oro takes 2006 state title
    In a thrilling finish, Canyon del Oro High School beat out Mesa Mountain View for the state title with a team score of 46,482.0 to Mountain View's 46,405.6. Congratulations to team members Arshed Al-Obeidi, Juhyung Sun, Elizabeth Roberts, Alicia Drapkin, Megan Dever-Hansen, Taylor Thibodeaux, Danielle Gifford, James A. Kriegh, and Dillon Foley, and coach Chris Yetman. Canyon del Oro High School also won the team Super Quiz event. Mesa Mountain View also finished second in both the Super Quiz Relay and the overall Super Quiz, and had the overall individual champion - Anne Marie Norgren, with an incredible score of 8962.7 points. Dobson High School won the Super Quiz Relay and finished third in both the overall Super Quiz event and the overall competition, scoring 43,153.9 points. Of the 40 teams who competed at this state competition, 32 had at least one student win an individual medal, marking this as a great competition. Canyon del Oro will represent Arizona at the National Competition in San Antonio, Texas. Congratulations to our winners and everyone who partcipated! We are proud of our students' success.

September 13, 2005: New executive director sought
    The AADA would like to announce that effective immediately it is commencing the search for a new executive director, to begin work in July 2006. For more information please see the Executive Director Search page. Also, all registration materials for the 2005-06 competition season are now available on this site in the Registration page.

    Please note that all official USAD math tests this year will have 35 questions.    
April 17, 2005: Mountain View second at nationals again
    Congratulations to Mountain View, who once again placed second overall at the national competition, less than 800 points behind the California team from El Camino Real. Mountain View scored a team total of 48,285.4. Jeff Ouzts finished second overall in the Varsity category, and Robert Richardson was the highest scorer in not only the Scholastic category but also the entire competition, with a score of 8665.8. We are proud of Arizona's team and their accomplishments.

    Mesa Mountain View High School won the state competition with a team score of 47,688. Congratulations to team members Katie Allen, Heather McCoy, Anne Marie Norgren, Joseph Jestes, Serena Laney, Robert Richardson, Jeff Ouzts, Gauri Barlingay, and Kathryn Dearman, and coaches Curt Canaday and Joan Snyder. Mountain View also won the Super Quiz relay, and Canyon del Oro High School won the team Super Quiz event and placed third overall in the team competition. Congratulations also to Westwood High School, which placed second, and overall individual champion Joshua Sadar from Mesa, who scored 8786.6 points. Mountain View will represent Arizona at the National Competition in Chicago, Illinois. Congratulations to our winners and everyone who partcipated!

December 2, 2004: AADA now accepts Paypal donations
    You can now make donations to the Arizona Academic Decathlon Association via Paypal. For more information on this process, please view the Contribute/Volunteer page. We appreciate your support for the Academic Decathlon in Arizona.    
November 16, 2004: Scholarship information and personnel changes
    There is now a link on the left sidebar to the Academic Decathlon Scholarships offered by ASU. Please note that you must apply to ASU by December 1, 2004 to be eligible to receive these scholarships. We would also like to note some personnel changes. First, Greta Baranowski is the new alumni representative. Also, Celia Erickson is taking over as Region IV co-coordinator, and Anita Lohr is the new Region III coordinator. We appreciate their efforts and the efforts of their predecessors. Finally, we would like to point out that a template for the interview résumé may be found in the performance event rubrics sections.

    A few pictures from past AADA competitions can be found in the Pictures section. We would like to highlight the picture of the 2004 Nationals Super Quiz Relay, at which the Arizona team from Mt. View set a national record.

May 15, 2004: 2005 curriculum released

April 17, 2004: Mountain View places 2nd at nationals
    Congratulations to Mesa Mountain View for placing second at USAD Nationals with a score of 50,391. Individual medallists were Christie Ferrante (Bronze in Varsity), Ben Burnham (Silver in Scholastic), Marshall Hunt (Gold in Scholastic), and Greta Baranowski (Gold in Honors). Greta was also the overall individual champion with a score of 9189 points. The team also won the Super Quiz relay (setting a national record) and the overall Super Quiz. Congratulations!    
March 6, 2004: Mountain View Mesa wins state
    Mesa Mountain View High School won the state competition with a state record team score of 49,023. Congratulations to team members Collete Mann, Greta Baranowski, Kate Ernzen, Kyle Day, Marshall Hunt, Ben Burnham, Steven Steinbrink, Jon Bittner, and Christie Ferrante, and coaches Curt Canaday and Joan Snyder. Mountain View also won the team Super Quiz event, and Canyon del Oro High School won the Super Quiz relay and placed second overall in the team competition. Congratulations also to North High School, which placed third, and overall individual champion Erin Hutchinson from Red Mountain, who scored a state record 9229 points. Mountain View will represent Arizona at the National Competition in Boise, Idaho. Congratulations to our winners and everyone who partcipated!
