Arizona Academic Decathlon Competitions

Almost 100 teams compete in AADA competitions every year. Participants come from urban, suburban, and rural schools and include public, private, and charter institutions. We’re proud to say that the winning Arizona team consistently places in the top 5 at the United States Academic Decathlon competition nearly every year.

There are four competition levels:

Numerous scrimmages & invitational events are held throughout Arizona each year. These events, hosted by school districts and individual schools, provide decathletes with opportunities to hone their skills in competition settings.

Arizona has four region competitions held the first weekend in February. 80 to 100 teams compete at the regional level. All Regional competitions will have Essay, Speech, and Interview sessions on Friday afternoon and evening; seven test sessions and Super Quiz Relay will be on Saturday.

The results of Regional Competitions give us the 30 teams that advance to the State Competition in March. Students complete the essay online prior to the competition, while the Speech and Interview portion of the competition are held Friday afternoon and evening; seven test sessions and the Super Quiz Relay will be on Saturday.

The highest-scoring team at the Arizona State Competition travels to the United States Academic Decathlon National Competition, held in April. The location of the National Final varies year to year. The highest-scoring medium and small schools will compete in the Medium School Online Competition and the Small School Online Competition.
