Approximately 60 teams compete in AADA competitions every year. Participants come from urban, suburban, and rural schools and include public, private, and charter institutions. We’re proud to say that the winning Arizona team consistently places in the top 5 at the United States Academic Decathlon competition nearly every year.
There are four competition levels:
Numerous scrimmages & invitational events are held throughout Arizona each year. These events, hosted by school districts and individual schools, provide decathletes with opportunities to hone their skills in competition settings.
The results of Regional Competitions give us the 30-40 teams that advance to the State Competition in March.
The highest-scoring team at the Arizona State Competition travels to the United States Academic Decathlon National Competition, typically held in late April. The location of the National Final varies year to year. We also send teams to compete in the Online Competition.
The USAD National competition took place in Garden Grove, California on April 23-25. The 41st annual state competition was held at Mountain View High School in Mesa on March 6-7, 2026. 25 teams and another 90 individuals from high schools across Arizona qualified for the competition.
