Volunteer Training

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for Arizona Academic Decathlon.

Training for all regions is centralized with the State Competition Committee and conducted virtually. Educational materials are provided here for reference.

All volunteers should review the “Intro to Judging” and “Interview/Speech Scoring” videos shown here, then click into the menus below according to your event assignment(s). Please view/download the associated handouts and watch the short videos within. Finally, please record your training completion at the bottom of the page.

Essay

Please watch the training video and thoroughly review the materials. Everything you need to judge essays will be provided to you electronically for the online evaluation.

Interview

Please watch the training videos and thoroughly review the handouts. Everything you need to judge interviews will be provided to you, including general and area of study questions, which you will receive on competition day. (Those will not be available to download here.)

The sample video is an older DVD that has been edited down to show examples of interviews that would generally score in the good, very good, and excellent categories. It also shows a little of what ‘not’ to do – watching your body language, chewing gum, using filler words, proper grooming, etc.

Speech
